Maroubra MP and ALP Councillor Michael Daley
has emphatically declared himself against supporting the return of
Light Rail to the Eastern Suburbs.
Daley made the declaration
while speaking against a Greens motion that will now see the Council
ask for a copy of a suppressed Government report on the feasibility
of Light Rail in the Sydney CBD.
Greens Councillor Murray
Matson said afterwards that he was disappointed by Cr Daley
opposition because it indicated to him that the Lemma Government was
also against light rail.
He elaborated,
“I have watched Cr Daley operate on
Council for over 10 years and know that he never deviates from what
ever is State Labor Government policy of the day.
Its a
winning strategy that has netted him the safe Labor seat of Maroubra
and I doubt that he is going to discover political bravery at this
late stage in his career.
So, if Cr Daley is presently
declaring himself against Light Rail then that can only mean that the
Labor State Government has indicated to him that it is anti Light
Rail.
Clearly we in turn need to go around this intransigent
local MP and get to the real decision makers on the issue of light
rail.”
