Two Randwick Labor Councillors to face Conduct Committee Investigations

 home

Local Randwick City Labor supporters must be asking what's happening now that both sitting Labor Councillors in “Central Ward” may have to face the Council's Conduct Committee.

In December the General Manager confirmed that Council resources had been used to produce a pre-selection leaflet for Cr Chris Bastic's personal use in the run up to the Maroubra byelection. His fellow Councillors then voted to refer him to the Committee.

This week the Department of Local Government advised that Cr Anthony Andrews should also face the Committee for failing to disclose a conflict of interest during debate on tenderers for the running of the Maroubra Beach Pavilion Cafe.

Greens Councillor and Deputy Mayor Murray Matson initiated both investigations.

He commented on Friday,

“In my opinion both have failed in their duty as elected representatives and have damaged the Council's reputation in the eyes of the community. Both have been on the Council for at least six years or more and should have known better. I believe that they should both resign.”
