Latest Concept Plan Under the Maroubra Beach Commercial Center Planning Review

home

Media Statement on Outcome to Planning Committee (9-3-10) report "M6/10 Maroubra Beach Commercial Center Planning Review M6/10".

Last Tuesday Greens Councillor Murray Matson commended all stakeholders who have participated in the Maroubra Beach Renewal Working Group.

The Group forwarded a concept plan to Council last year and this week Council resolved to engage Allen Jack+Cooter to further develop it.

The success of this project to date was made possible after Greens Councillors Murray Matson and Margaret Woodsmith moved on the 22nd April 2008 to abandon a previous concept that was widely unpopular with the local community.

They moved instead that:

a) Council not proceed with the recommendations in the Draft Maroubra Beach Commercial Centre Review.
b) Council seeks to foster acceptable change in the Maroubra Beach area via a working group, with the following operating principles:

Former Labor and now independent Councillor Anthony Andrews attempted unsuccessfully to overturn the resolution at the next meeting of the 28th May 2008.

Cr Matson commented,

“It is pleasing to now see independent Councillor Andrews coming on board with the Greens and supporting this community iniated process despite his original opposition to it when he served the Maroubra Beach community as a Labor Councillor.”
