Puts Draft Mobile Phone Tower Plan on Public Exhibition
Randwick
Council is moving closer to exerting more control over the erection of mobile
phone towers after it voted to place it a new draft Development Control Plan on
public exhibition.
The
plan was initiated by a motion put to Council last year by Greens Councillor
Murray Matson.
Cr
Matson criticised the Commonwealth for not allowing Councils to use such plans
to regulate all types of mobile phone towers,
“The
plan when adopted by Council will allow us to exert more control over the
siting of some types of mobile phone towers.
Unfortunately
it wont allow us to deal with those types of phone towers that the Commonwealth
Government has arbitrarily deemed to be ‘low impact’ and then placed outside of
Council’s planning controls.”
