Clovelly Deck Chairs Not a Goer for the Greens

 home

The Greens won't be supporting a Deck Chair hiring service at Clovelly Beach following opposition to the idea from the newly reformed Clovelly Precinct Committee.

The Greens announcement came from Greens North Ward Councillor Margaret Woodsmith who was actually the only Randwick Councillor to have voted against the proposal when it was first debated on Council.

Cr Woodsmith elaborated,

"I voted against the proposal at the Council meeting as I just did not think that it was suitable for Clovelly Beach. Some of my fellow Councillors thought that it would be OK by saying no to an exclusive area. But I felt that the whole idea to be too European and not suitable for Clovelly."

The announcement comes as little surprise as the Greens are noted for generally adopting resolutions from Randwick's precinct Committees.

Green Deputy Mayor Matson elaborated,

"I thought the idea had some merit but local residents clearly think otherwise. It would now appear that Cr Woodsmith was pretty in tune with her constituency when she opposed it at the Council meeting.

The Greens have a pretty good record at working with the precinct committees and we will accept their call as a no on deck chairs."
