Maroubra By-election: Anne Gardiner thanks voters for the Greens best ever result in Maroubra.

 home

The Greens today celebrated a primary vote of 19.5% and a two party preferred vote of 31% in the Maroubra electorate. This is more than double their best previous result in Maroubra.

The Greens most successful booths, with primary votes of up to 30%, were around the Kingsford area.

This indicates a voter backlash by those who will be worst affected by the RTAs proposed Gardeners road access ramps. It also signals support for the Greens light rail alternative to the ramps.

During the campaign many people expressed concern about the state Governments lack of vision in planning for our future water, transport and health needs.

Anne Gardiner said

"If these pressing issues are to be resolved then the government needs to develop policy which is evidence based and developed in consultation with the community. There are no quick fix solutions if we are to have a sustainable future."
