Interim Green Mayor For Randwick

The Greens have announced that all attempts to reach a negotiated arrangement with Labor and the Liberals on sharing the Randwick Mayoralty have now collapsed.

But a majority of Councillors have agreed on an interim Mayor and Deputy Mayor to take the Council through to the next mayoral election scheduled for September this year.

Greens Councillor Murray Matson will hold the interim Mayorship and Liberal Bruce Notley-Smith will be the Deputy.

Cr Matson stated,

"The frustrating reality is that no agreement is now in place for after September this year.

The Greens are accepting the interim Mayorship up to then in order to give the elected Randwick Councillors a pressure free time period to sort out a long-term solution.

The election for the immediate five month period will occur tomorrow night.
