Greens South Ward candidate Anne Gardiner has affirmed the Greens support for the conservation and public ownership of Malabar Headland.

Last week the Friends of Malabar Headland (FoMH) called on election candidates to state their support.

She said,

"The Greens support all the objectives of FoMH's Plan of Management for the Headland. The Labor and Liberal candidates need to be more assertive in pushing the Commonwealth Liberal Government to adopt these objectives for the area that it owns of the Malabar Headland."

FoMH objectives that the Greens are supporting include:

  1. To declare the entire Headland a National Park. This would allow protection of all native vegetation, animal habitat and heritage sites, and should include the western bushland and a bush corridor on the north and south;
  2. To rezone the Rifle Range as public open space;
  3. To complete the Malabar Headland section of the Eastern Beaches Coastal Walk; and
  4. To clean up the pollution in the children’s pools at south Maroubra Beach.
