Randwick-Botany Greens Cautiously Welcome Debnam Pro Light Rail Comments

The Randwick-Botany Greens have cautiously welcomed today's print media promises that the State Opposition will explore "fully and openly assess" expanding light rail to Maroubra and Mascot.

Randwick's Green Deputy Mayor Murray Matson compared the opposition leader's stance to that of local ALP MP's who oppose light rail. He said,

The state opposition leader's comments as reported in the Sydney Morning Herald fall well short of a full commitment that light rail will actually be returned to areas of Randwick City. Non-the-less, he is now out in front of the ALP members for Maroubra and Heffron who are solidly against light rail. I am not clear as to what the ALP MP for Coogee's position is.”

The Greens have clashed with both Michael Daley (Labor MP for Maroubra) and Kristina Keneally (Labor MP for Heffron) over transport issues including Light Rail.

Cr Matson elaborated,

So far Michael Daley and Kristina Keneally are completely ignoring Randwick Council's Transport Study which favors a light rail link from the CBD to UNSW and Green Square. There is little excuse in Daley's case as he is also a Randwick Councillor.”
