Randwick Labor Not Interested in Booze Buses

 home

Acting ALP Mayor Michael Daley has blocked debate on a Greens motion that sought information about claims that the Clovely Hotel buses late night drinkers to the Beach Palace hotel after the former shuts.

Greens Councillor Murray Matson's motion at last Tuesday night's Council meeting wanted the General Manager to,

"... contact the management of the Beach Palace hotel asking them to comment on claims that they have been reported as identifying the Clovelly Hotel as employing the practice of bussing patrons to the Beach Palace."

Clr Daley ruled the Greens motion out-of-order on the grounds that it was not a relevant Council mater although both hotels are within Randwick's borders.

Clr Matson's motion was based on reports from a Coogee resident who attended a recent Liquor Administration Board meeting.

The resident claimed that they heard the Beach Palace hotel defend itself against accusations that it was bussing drinkers in from other pubs by stating that it was other hotels that were carrying out this activity.
