"22 Eastern Distributor Arrests"
Two Councillors from the Greens party are amongst 22 arrests as of Monday from protests against the Eastern Distributor.
On Wednesday Cr Murray Matson of Randwick Council was charged under the Enclosed Lands Act while trying to prevent the felling of trees bordering South Dowling Street.
On Saturday Waverly Cr Tom McLoughlin shackled himself by the throat to the bull bar of a truck in the Anzac parade entrance to the construction site while a theatre troupe of ‘super heroes’ performed in front of it. It was his second arrest.
Cr McLoughlin drew attention to ...
"... the 400 deaths per year in Sydney associated with air pollution."
Cr Matson stated that,
"Sydney is becoming a car dependent city as successive state governments blindly allow the RTA to continue building motorways when what is really needed is public transport."
Both were supporting protest actions called for by the anti-motorway group ‘LinkUp’.
